Huka Falls
Huka Falls in Taupo is the most visited natural attraction in New Zealand – and for good reason! Located 7km downstream of Lake Taupo on the Waikato River is one of nature’s most powerful waterfalls. A quarter of a million litres of water per second erupts from a natural gorge and plunges 11 metres to form Huka Falls.
The Waikato River narrows from 100 metres wide to just 15 metres wide as it squeezes through a volcanic canyon. This pressure causes the water to burst out of the gorge with such incredible power and force and form the beautiful waterfall we know today. An Olympic sized swimming pool could be filled in just 11 seconds by the amount of water thundering over the falls. The raw energy, crystal clear blue water, swirling white foam and roar of the torrent make a visit to Huka Falls unforgettable.
Make your visit extra special by visiting the base of the falls with Huka Falls River Cruise. Our specially built riverboat and experienced, local guides can safely and comfortably bring you so close that you will feel the spray of the water on your face!
